Privacy

This page is about this website only. It doesn’t cover the Rillio app, which isn’t available yet. The app will have its own privacy policy before anyone can download it. If the website gains new features, this page will be updated before they go live.
What this site collects
Reading the site collects nothing that identifies you. There are no cookies, no accounts and no advertising. The fonts and images come from this site itself, so reading a page doesn’t send anything to Google or anyone else.
The only thing that collects personal data is the contact form, and only if you use it.
Hosting
The site is hosted by Netlify. Like any web host, Netlify receives your IP address and some details of your browser when it sends you a page. It needs them to deliver the page and to protect the service from abuse. This site doesn’t use them to identify or follow anyone.
Visitor numbers
Netlify counts visits to the site from its own server records: how many pages were read, roughly how many different visitors there were, and which sites linked here. It does this from the IP addresses it already receives, described above, with no cookies and no tracking code in the pages. The figures are only seen as totals, to know which pages people read. The legal basis is legitimate interests.
The contact form
If you send a message through the contact form, Netlify stores your email address and your message, and passes them on to Marko Balabanovic, who runs this site. They are used only to reply to you. They aren’t added to a mailing list or shared with anyone else, and they are deleted within 12 months, or sooner if you ask.
The legal basis is legitimate interests: replying to a message you chose to send. Netlify stores form messages in the United States. It is certified under the UK Extension to the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, which UK law recognises as giving adequate protection to personal data sent there.
Please don’t include details of your health in a message. If you do, they will be deleted along with the rest of the message.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask what personal data is held about you, and ask for it to be corrected or deleted. If you have used the contact form, that means your email address and your message; otherwise this site keeps no personal data about you. Netlify also receives your IP address when it sends you a page, as described above. If you think your data has been handled badly, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
